EduQual Certificate in Implant Dentistry (SCQF Level 11)

Learn implant dentistry in Peterborough. Place implants on live patients in Brazil.

Are you ready to start offering implants in your practice? This 12-week programme takes you from your first case assessment to placing implants on real patients, with expert mentoring at every step. It leads to a regulated postgraduate-level qualification, and it’s built to give you the skills and confidence to place implants safely in your own practice.

How the course works

The course runs in four modules. Every delegate completes all four.

Module 1: Foundations (Peterborough)
Patient selection and assessment, consent and medicolegal considerations, surgical anatomy, and minor oral surgery: flaps, suturing and atraumatic extraction. Includes a CBCT masterclass on reading scans and planning safely.

Module 2: Planning and surgery (Peterborough)
Digital workflow, planning software, guided surgery and intraoral scanning. Occlusion and treatment planning. Simple and immediate implant placement, with hands-on practice and live surgery observation at our clinic.

Module 3: Advanced and restorative (Peterborough)
Bone defects, ridge preservation, bone augmentation and sinus considerations. Soft tissue management and grafting. Restoring implants with fixed and removable prostheses, the All-on-X concept, and managing complications and long-term maintenance.

Module 4: Brazil Surgical Experience
Five days at our partner university’s dental school in Brazil, where you’ll put everything into practice on real patients:

• Place at least [number] implants yourself, one-to-one with a supervising implantologist
• Plan every case with the team before surgery and review it afterwards
• Assist and observe your colleagues’ cases, so you see far more surgery than you place
• Build a signed surgical log for your portfolio

All cases are carefully selected and planned in advance. The university’s clinical team restores your patients after you return home. You must complete Modules 1–3 before you’re signed off to operate in Brazil.

Your mentor: Dr Sunil Passan

Dr Sunil Passan leads the course and mentors every delegate personally. He guides you through the programme, supervises the cases you present for your certificate, and supports you with treatment planning and case advice for 12 months after you finish.

Your qualification

On successful completion you’ll receive the EduQual Certificate in Implant Dentistry (SCQF Level 11). This is a regulated postgraduate-level qualification worth 60 credits, equivalent to RQF Level 7, and it may be considered by UK universities for advanced standing on Master’s programmes.

To achieve the certificate, you’ll complete the practical exercises, pass two multiple-choice exams, keep a signed surgical log, present three completed implant cases and submit a short reflective piece.

No implant experience is needed.

Entry requirements

• Full GDC registration as a dentist
• At least 2 years’ clinical experience since qualifying
• Professional indemnity that covers implant surgery, including treatment in Brazil
• A valid passport
